FAR AWAY
By Aaron Sellars, aka SonOfAdam 06/27/05 © 2005
Excuse me sister
Can I whisper
A little truth in your ear?
It’s no mystery
Through history
All the signs are clear
Times are so whack
Dogs on Prozac
Everyone feels under
False depression
Learn a lesson
The devil’s got your number
The war’s adjacent
But you’re complacent
It’s just another channel
So just turn the station
And keep erasin’
Pain you can’t dismantle
Sometimes I wanna fly,
Far away!
And then I pray
Oh let me stay!
Another day (2x)
Excuse me Mister
Can I whisper
A little truth in your ear?
It’s no mystery
Through history
All the signs are clear
More energy drinks
To speed the jinx
Of a life you can’t control
Going to and from
While you feel so numb
But you think you’re on a roll
A brand new diet
You got to try it
Cuz everyone’s so thin
Put down that mag
And grab a rag
And wipe this mess you’re in!
Sometimes I wanna fly,
Far away!
And then I pray
Oh let me stay!
Another day (2x)
Excuse me people
There’s no sequel
We’ve only got one chance
To get it right
And win this fight
So check your circumstance!
You got internet
And a cell phone pet
But we’re all disconnected
You hear the preachers
And sacred teachers
But no one gets affected
Don’t let terrorism
Be the schism
For all humanity
Bring the proofs
When you report the “truth”
And restore the sanity
Sometimes I wanna fly,
Far away!
And then I pray
Oh let me stay!
Another day (2x)

As-salamu-alay-kum Shaykh Khalil,
I was just reminiscing last Sunday's "Spiritual Jam" @ Madrasah Khairiah. Eventhough the session was a little stretched, I actually wished it hadn't ended so soon. I guess musicians know to expect the unexpected at a jam session huh?
I really couldn't thank you (and also Shaykh Yahya and Shaykh Usama) enough for visiting Singapore.... my wife and I had enjoyed and, perhaps more importantly, have benefitted from your various sessions here. We look forward to seeing you here again next year insha Allah.
Thank you also for sharing with us Sidi Haroon's poetry! They are beautiful indeed and I will remember to make duas for him insha Allah.
Btw, now that you're no longer on facebook, could you drop me an e-mail just to stay in touch?
Wassalam....

Assalamualaikum Shaykh Khalil,
Thanks for sharing with us the poems written by Brother Haroon. I really really enjoy it! The poems were beautifully read and it certainly made us reflect on what we are currently doing as Muslims. The talks given too were inspiring, beyond words. Masya Allah.
Really looking forward to having you back in Singapore again. May Allah bless you and your family always. Amin :)

I just love this poem mash'Allah
It reminds me of other poems I read on New Islamic Direction.
All these great poets should gather and publish a book together through Islamic Texts Society or something, don't you think Shaykh Khalil?
Jazak Allah kol kheir
PS: ever wonder visiting Egypt like Singapore inch'Allah?

the prose is just absolute coolness.
talk about the relevance of Islam across all times and contexts... and we see Sidi Haroon's gift of muraqabah in testing times as ours... may Allah bless him continuously for helping us to remain mindful through his personal creative process, Ameen! My salaams to him!
Shaykh, thank you for the reading of this poem, and may Allah bless you for introducing this wonderful and absolutely profound work to this ignorant faqir.
May Allah forgive us all, and protect us from Al-Ghaflah, insya Allah, Ameen.
Hope all is doing good with you... do remember to take in vitamins and drink more water to keep away the flu, and may Allah grant us all good health to serve His Ways.
Missing the times already,
Nizar
